Elk River Fish Lodge, 1989 Banner Elk Hwy, Banner Elk, NC
Pictures from the late 1950s. The cabin was owned by William S. Coulter and 50/50 with a fellow named Brim, for many years around this. Over 18 acres are included. Location on Google Maps. The lodge has a Facebook Page. In 2022 the lodge had a website (now in archive.org). In January 2023 the property was purchased for $1,325,000 by the Eagles Nest gated community and resort across the highway. (Previous sale was $500,000 in December 2019.) The most recent pictures can be found at many travel aggregating sites, like Expedia. The rate was about $400/night. Guests had access to most resort amenities. Negatives scanned at 3000 dpi with an HP Coolscan 5000.
1: Picture taken from the driveway bridge. See how close the cabin is to the water. Riskfactor.com gave the cabin a 10/10 Flood Factor.
2: The bridge remained the same, until Hurricane Helene washed it away.
3: I like the boulder in the middle.
4: The cabin had no foundation. A raised foundation was added prior to 2009. The car is a Mercedes 219 Ponton circa 1956-59.
5: In front of the cabin, looking downstream. So close, making it easy to wash away the road.
6: A little shed to fish from and get out from under the sun.. A little downstream from the cabin.
