Providenciales 2007

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos pictures taken May 2007. These pictures cover the three times I was bicycling on this island. Includes 18 panoramas.

1: Grace Beach from Long Point. This is from the point behind Turtle Cove. All of the hotels are in the far distance. This beach is in a park and is an example of an ungroomed beach.

2: Grace Beach from in front of Coral Gardens. Looking west. The sign along the left says this is to be the site of the future Toscana.
thumbnail #2
3: Grace Beach in front of Coral Gardens. Looking east.
thumbnail #3
4: The umbrellas in front of Coral Gardens. But they don't make this beach a Top 10 beach. On a Top 10 beach the shade is provided by a grove of palm trees.

5: Grace Beach in front of The Somerset. Looking west.
thumbnail #5
6: Grace Beach in front of The Somerset. Looking east.
thumbnail #6
7: The Somerset. Taken so I would know where the prior two pictures were taken.
thumbnail #7
8: The Caicos Conch Farm [now closed to public]. I got there after they closed and I had to settle for a through fence picture.
thumbnail #8
9: A panorama of Long Bay.
thumbnail #9
10: A panorama at Turquoise Ridge.
thumbnail #10
11: An Ascalapha odorata, Black Witch moth that was outside my room.
thumbnail #11
12: The Aqua Bar & Terrace [now a different restaurant] at the Turtle Cove Inn at Turtle Cove Marina. This is where I ate many of my meals. There's my Dahon Glide folding bike.
thumbnail #12
13: A beach along Blue Hills Road. [where?] The only difference between this beach and those hotels ones, is there they clean all the seaweed off the beach and from the water.
thumbnail #13
14: When you come across a house like this in the Caribbean, it means that the family only had enough money to build one story. Later, when they have more, they can add the second. This is along Blue Hills Road.
thumbnail #14
15: In the distance you can see The Canterbury, which is way out towards Northwest Point. A point of interest is this place used to be called the Northwest Point Resort, but I guess that gave away its out-of-the-wayness. When they were built 10 years ago they were Crystal Cove.
thumbnail #15
16: Looking at Northwest Point from Mule Point.
thumbnail #16
17: The Three Queens Bar & Restaurant. I had lunch there. It was built in 1974 and is the oldest bar and restaurant on the island. Back when it started they had to run generators to run the place.
thumbnail #17
18: A view of Pigeon Pond. Taken on the road to Malcolm Roads.
thumbnail #18
19: The beach at Malcolm Roads. Looking south at Amanyara resort.
thumbnail #19
20: A panorama from a dock along Blue Hills Road. At [??]. The duplicate boy can be eliminated, but I haven't spent the time figuring out how.

thumbnail #26
27: The flats by the Fish Plant with some birds. Something was wrong with my camera's exposure.
thumbnail #27
28: A mangroove swamp with Five Cays in the background. This was supposed to be a picture with lots of young mangroves. But a butterfly flew into the picture and became a big blur. So I had to crop the bottom off.
thumbnail #28
29: My first look at Chalk Sound.
thumbnail #29
30: The beach along Sapodilla Bay.
thumbnail #30
31: A panorama of Chalk Sound. Taken a little ways after Chalk Sound Road starts and I'm looking north.
thumbnail #31
32: Another panorama of Chalk Sound. Also looking north.
thumbnail #32
33: Looking at Chalk Sound. This taken way down on Chalk Sound Road and I'm looking east.
thumbnail #33
34: A grand mansion at the end of The Silly Creek Estate & Marina Club. Looking from Chalk Sound Road. I didn't have time to get to it, so this was my closest.

thumbnail #35
36: An aerial view of Old Airport Road in the foreground and downtown in the background.

39: I'm now back on Provo waiting for a flight to my next island. So having the bike I went for a ride. This is from beyond the airport looking south at Chalk Sound.

thumbnail #46
47: I'm now back on Provo for my third time. This is The Hole (a deep water hole) on Sea Sage Hill Road in Long Bay Hills. To get it wider I stitched together two pictures. Note the difference with the deep fresh water blue hole I found on wetter North Caicos, which is full of water.
thumbnail #47
48: Another of The Hole. This is three pictures stitched.
thumbnail #48
49: A panorama of Sapodilla Bay from above the dock for the boats to West Caicos.

60: Da Conch Shack. I ate dinner there a couple times. The night before taking this picture the place had tables, chairs, umbrellas and it was hopping with people. But I didn't bring along my camera then.
