Box With Van Dykes

From Gerald Eanor, Antique Boxes & Collectables, Dereham, Norfolk, England
Old Stock Page
The condition of all of the veneers are superb. Excellent selection and positioning of the various wood species to create contrast and of course to maximise the 3D effect of the cubes. Some of the woods are quite easy to identify, rosewood, yew, mahogany, ebony but I am particularly pleased to see one piece of Partridge wood to the centre of the lid as the specie has a particularly strong association with Georgian boxes. The lid closes square and true. Little to no use of a key over the past 200 or so years given the condition of the edges of the key hole. Hinges and lock in excellent condition with a replacement working key supplied. The box interior has been neatly relined by a previous owner.
