The box is made up of tiny pieces of wood arranged to create a pattern and then inlaid onto the carcass in one piece. On the front is a spray of flowers bordered by micro-mosaic in different types and colours of woods. The back is made of diamond shapes of veneer so arranged to create a design of cubes. The sides of the case are edged in micro-mosaic. Circa 1870.
The case is in excellent condition: no loss or repair. The inside slip has a hairline crack on one side but is stable (see last photo). 4-1/8" × 2-7/8" × 9/16".
